"The Heat" DVD & Blu- Ray Release Review

Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy Star in “The Heat”. Released June 28, 2013 in Theaters and October 15, 2013 on DVD and Blu-Ray, The Heat centers in on an ambitious yet naive FBI Agent and a potty mouth Boston Police Officer teaming up to take down an incredibly powerful  yet virtually unknown Drug Kingpin.  My only problem with The Heat was that it felt in some ways like 21 Jump street, ala’ Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. I felt that this was unnecessary due to the fact that both Bullock and McCarthy( Bullock has several Academy Awards, McCarthy is a household name) bring enough star power to the film and so the slight emulation factor is not needed.

The film is somewhat of a Throwback to all the great Cop-team up films of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s,
Think Cagney and Lacey , Beverly Hills Cop and 48 hours but with a huge comedic twist and a shot of estrogen.  In all fairness, The Heat is a really good film ! It has just the right amount of laughter, drama and action to appeal to a very wide audience.  Many will argue that The Heat is too formulaic or routine but the one liners alone are witty enough for the price of admission.
