The UK’s Top 10 Best-Selling Albums

The UK’s top 10 best-selling albums of 2014 was entirely comprised of British artists, for the first time ever.

Lists of the top 10 most popular albums/singles have been revealed, with Ed Sheeran’s X leading the pack as the best-selling LP, followed by Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour. Sheeran and Smith were the only artists to sell over 1 million copies in Britain.

George Ezra’s Wanted on Voyage charted at number three in the year-end list, whilst Paolo Nutini’sCaustic Love made a surprise entry at number four. Coldplay, One Direction, Take That, Paloma Faith, Olly Murs and Pink Floyd rounded out the rest of the chart.

In the singles chart, Pharrell’s omnipresent ‘Happy’ secured the top spot, going quadruple platinum, followed by Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather Be’ and John Legend’s ‘All Of Me’. The best-selling compilation album of the year was Now That’s What I Call Music 89, which is apparently still going. It will truly outlive us all.
