Review: Underground

There are sequences in WGN America's "Underground" that are so suspenseful and stirring, you wonder if this 10-episode series is a historical drama about the Underground Railroad or an adrenaline-pumping action thriller. Well, it's both.

It's sort of a historical action thriller, and a remarkably good one, at that. Sumptuously produced and richly acted, "Underground" never forgets the story part of history. It is a heartfelt and exciting tribute to the courage, passion, ingenuity and resolve of those who risked all on the Underground Railroad.
WGN America is gradually establishing itself as a home for visually bold, imaginatively executed period dramas.
